SamaraCare’s highly esteemed President & CEO, Rev. Dr. Scott Mitchell, announced his retirement after an illustrious 36-year tenure with the organization.
With Scott’s leadership, SamaraCare evolved into a beacon of hope, offering holistic care that integrates the emotional, physical, spiritual, and social components of mental health. Scott will be succeeded by the current Executive Director Rev. Dr. Michael Bradburn, who will become President & CEO, effective January 1, 2025.
A Clinical Psychologist and United Methodist Clergy, Scott joined SamaraCare in 1988 as a psychologist, quickly ascending to Clinical Director before assuming the helm as interim CEO in 1998, a position he would hold permanently from January 1999. Throughout his tenure, his steadfast commitment to SamaraCare’s core values of Mind, Body, Spirit, and Community shaped the organization’s identity and guided its growth trajectory. Scott was instrumental in in expanding the organization’s Mental Health Access Program which has provided over $25 million in reduced cost care to thousands of financially challenged clients in need of counseling and psychiatric care.
“Scott’s inspired leadership earned him the utmost respect and admiration from SamaraCare’s employees, clients, and board members as well as constituents throughout the communities SamaraCare serves. His tremendous efforts strengthened SamaraCare’s values-based culture and enriched the lives of so many people. Personally, I am grateful for his guidance, support and mentorship,” said Michael Bradburn.
Scott expressed gratitude for the opportunities and experiences afforded to him during his tenure. He said, “It’s been a privilege to lead SamaraCare and witness the unwavering dedication of our employees and boards to our mission.”
As Scott prepares to embark on his next chapter, everyone at SamaraCare expresses their heartfelt appreciation for his invaluable contributions and wishes him all the best in his retirement.
