Relationships can be the source of so much joy and strength. But even strong and healthy relationships often require hard work. There are many forces that affect all of us–like finances, work stress or unemployment, parenthood, infidelity, sexual dissatisfaction, etc.–and healthy relationships can sometimes feel impossible.
It can be very challenging to repair or maintain a relationship gone awry. Relationship-building is a matter of learning, practicing and applying specific skills that are never formally taught. Our academic education doesn’t typically include courses in communication, negotiation, intimacy, and emotional regulation skills, which are needed to foster and maintain a healthy relationship
We help couples explore challenging relationship issues in a safe, non-judgmental environment where they will learn to approach problems in a way that is loving, honest and respectful. Even small changes can often have surprisingly profound benefits. Simply adjusting language and better understanding each other’s behavior can often be enough to have a meaningful positive impact. What couples learn in therapy will not only benefit the couple but each person individually and change how each one interacts with every person in their life. How sessions are structured depends on the couple’s specific needs. Individual counseling may be recommended to supplement joint sessions. However, the goals always remain the same: to help both partners develop and maintain healthy boundaries; foster intimacy and connectedness; and to improve communication and satisfaction.By giving your relationship the attention it needs and deserves, it’s possible to unlock the joy and personal fulfillment that only a strong, healthy relationship can offer.
