“I focus on fostering connection, understanding, and safety. My counseling style is warm and authentic. My clients are the experts in their unique life experiences, so I practice flexibility with humility. My goal is for clients to feel comfortable opening up and working on their most important challenges. I reciprocate the trust my clients place in me by offering a positive, nurturing relationship.”
Anne holds a Masters of Arts in Counseling and Art Therapy from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has experience working in inpatient and outpatient psychiatric programs and in community counseling settings. Anne works with children, teens, adults, and older adults. She uses both verbal counseling and art therapy to treat a variety of conditions. In addition to her listed specialties, she has extensive experience supporting individuals in coping with relational trauma, caregiving challenges, chronic medical conditions, school and workplace stress, life transitions, religious and cultural issues, and mental health stigma.
Anne’s primary approach is building strong connections with clients. She is certified in DBT (dialectical behavior therapy), an evidence-based treatment model. DBT balances practical skills for managing emotions and making positive changes, while developing methods to cope with situations that are out of our control. She offers art therapy activities to support the expression of thoughts and feelings while gaining insight, strengthening self-confidence, reducing stress, and improving mood.
Prior to earning her MA, Anne worked in a variety of human services roles in southern Indiana and Chicago serving under-resourced communities. She approaches client care from a holistic orientation, recognizing the inseparability of body, mind, spirit, community, culture, and environment. Her work is informed by a social justice orientation, intersectional feminist theory, and a disability culture perspective.
In her free time, Anne loves spending time with her family and friends. She enjoys camping and hiking, gardening, music, comedy, and community advocacy work.
