James Curtis York II is a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern and a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling candidate at National Louis University, with an expected graduation date of May 2027. He earned a Master of Science in Information Systems from Roosevelt University in 2016 and a Bachelor of Science in Social Sciences from Western Illinois University in 2010. He also earned the Project Management Professional credential from the Project Management Institute in 2026.
James works with young adults and adults. His clinical interests include anxiety, depression, stress, grief, trauma, PTSD, social and emotional functioning, and spirituality and faith-related concerns. He is especially interested in supporting men and clients from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds who are navigating identity, relationships, faith, career and life transitions, or feeling stuck. James draws from Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients identify strengths, clarify goals, and develop practical strategies for meaningful change. When requested by the client, he can respectfully integrate Christian faith while honoring each person’s beliefs and values. Prior to entering the counseling profession, James built a career in information technology and project management. This experience informs his understanding of workplace stress, leadership demands, goal setting, and organizational change. Outside of counseling, he enjoys fitness, personal development, serving in his church community, Marvel and Star Wars films, and video games.
